WHAT ARE THEY?

Chiropractic Adjustments are gentle but firm joint mobilizations meant to restore normal movement within the joint.

When an injury or instability occurs in the body, one of the ways your body tries to adapt to that instability is by fixating joints along the kinetic chain. This means that a stiffness occurs in the joint preventing mobility in the area, until your brain regains confidence that it can control the area without causing harm. Chiropractic Adjustments are used to override this stiffness, and get you back to moving the way you were meant to.

Joint Adjustments can be help extremely helpful in cases of:

  • Sciatica
  • Disc Herniations
  • Tech Neck

HOW DO THEY WORK?

Pain runs on the same nerve fibers in our body as movement and proprioception, which is our bodies awareness of where it is in space. With normal function our brain is paying more attention to the wealth of movement and proprioception that it is receiving, while only moderately concerning itself with the small amounts of pain information.

When an injury or instability occurs and our body responds by fixating our joints. This can remove a great deal of the movement and proprioceptive input that our brain is used to receiving. Instead, the brain is now forced to use all its attention to focus on the remaining pain input as that is now the majority of the information it is receiving.

By applying a precise force to the fixated joint your licensed Chiropractor is able to:

  • Restore normal motion in the joint
  • Supply the brain with a surplus of new movement information
  • Ease your pain.

SO IT IS NOT JUST ABOUT THE POPPING JOINTS?

While the “popping” or cavitation of the joint can be a satisfying sensation, it has little to no effect on the actual outcome of the treatment. What is more important is that normal movement is restored to the area being treated.
